Abstract

Thyroglossal duct cyst is the most common form of congenital malformations in the neck. The coexistence of a carcinoma in a thyroglossal duct cyst is rare and papillary carcinoma accounts for almost 80% of it. The treatment of papillary carcinoma in thyroglossal duct cyst remains controversial including Sistrunks procedure total thyroidectomy with modified radical neck dissection and radioiodine ablation. In our case, the Sistrunks procedure was done and Papillary carcinoma was confirmed with the histopathological examination and following surgery, radioiodine scan showed normal uptake and patient was put on suppressive dose of levothyroxine. One year follow-up showed no evidence of any recurrence.
