Abstract
Food is a very basic human need. Access to adequate, safe and nutritious food is the right of every citizen irrespective of gender, caste, creed, colour or wealth. Every country irrespective of its economic status has a primary duty to grow, store and distribute adequate food to its citizens at all times. It is also essential that countries access the demand and supply of food items real time, and take measure to plug the gap between the demand and supply. Acountry is expected to frame and support such policy decisions that can ensure the nutritional security of its people. In this communication, a bird's eye view of food security issues and challenges facing India over the next 15 years is presented. It is important that public health personnel have an understanding into these issues in order to voice, propose and implement food related policy decision.
