Abstract
Mobile phones of late are being linked to certain diseases. Amore serious issue is the problem of dependence among mobile phone users.
Objective: To assess the prevalence of mobile addiction among the study subjects and to assess the clinical and behavioral manifestations. Subjects and methods: The study was conducted in the Bangalore city covering about 11 Colleges from March 2008 – July 2008. The study subjects included pre-university, degree, post graduate, engineering, dental and medical colleges students. It was a cross-sectional, exploratory study.
Results: The prevalence of mobile phone addiction in our study was 3.2%.The commonest behavioral changes observed were feeling lonely, irritated, insecure and incomplete. The commonest clinical manifestations observed were headache, ear pain, neck pain and thumb pain.
